Embarking on a journey to Iceland is like stepping into a realm of untouched beauty and raw nature, where every moment feels like a brushstroke on a magnificent canvas. As you land at Keflavik International Airport, the crisp, invigorating air immediately embraces you, preparing you for the adventure that lies ahead. While I was in Reykjavik, the vibrant capital city, for only a day, I made my way to the Blue Lagoon the minute I landed and collected my things and car rental at 6am!
The Blue Lagoon offers a geothermal spa experience like no other. The warm, milky-blue waters contrast with the surrounding volcanic terrain, creating an oasis of relaxation. As I soak in the mineral-rich waters, a sense of tranquility enveloped me, leaving the worries of the world behind. I could have spent all day here but alas, I had a packed schedule ahead of me. Mind you, thats not how I normally operate on a vacation but well worth it seeing as though there was so much I wanted to see. From there I hit the Golden Circle towards the Sifra Fissure in the Thingvellir National Park!
Submerging into the crystalline depths of Silfra Fissure, snorkeling the Continental Divide unveils a surreal underwater world where two tectonic plates part ways. Encased in a drysuit, the frigid waters become a gateway to an iridescent blue realm, where the meeting of continents is a silent spectacle, and the clarity of the water reveals every detail of the submerged landscape. Drifting through this aqueous chasm, one is suspended between geological epochs, surrounded by the hushed elegance of rock formations and the profound beauty of nature's sculpted architecture—an experience that transcends mere adventure, becoming a reverent journey through the Earth's living history.
As the sun begins its descent, casting a warm, golden hue over the Icelandic horizon, it's time to bid farewell to the day's enchanting escapades and embrace the promise of a relaxing evening, letting the memories of the snorkeling expedition linger as a testament to the day's extraordinary exploration. See you for Part II!
