As I round out the last week of my visit to the family homestead, I find myself wishing I could stay forever. To continue to explore the land of my ancestors. On one of my explorations of the area surrounding my mothers home town of Geraki, Greece, we visited a nearby mountain that had many ancient churches that have since survived from the Byzantium era as well as a Frankokratia castle. While many of the churches we’re in various states of ruin, many had beautiful murals within. Recently, there has been a major push within Greece to restore these amazing relics of the past. Hope you enjoy!
Words cannot describe how this trip has positively affected me. To revisit the country of my family has always called home. To see the history, the fruits of their labor, as an adult was an experience that I shall carry with me for the rest of my life. Thank you to my beautiful family! Not just for hosting me but for being a part of my life and renewing my sense of belonging.
