I’ve finally made it! I’ve been dreaming of this trip for a long while and it’s finally happened. I’ve made it to what locals have called The Last Frontier since the US purchased this beautiful land from the Russian Empire in late 1800’s (1867 to be exact) for about $.02 cents per acre or a total of $7.2 million dollars. That’s about $110 million in todays currency. What. A. STEAL! Add that to the list of why Russo-US relations are so difficult. I would still be mad too if I was swindled so badly. ANYWAYS.... I’m not here to give you a history lesson; that’s what the History Channel is for... with Aliens...
Where was I... oh yeah... This is my first visit to Alaska. I was here on assignment to meet with some clients for my more illustrious career (READ: full time WITH health insurance.. thank God!) of Project Management. I had planned my trip to include some extra time to explore and see the sights. And what sights there were to behold and linger on. I found myself drifting in and out of attention during meetings, looking out the windows of the conference room to the great expanse of the mountain ranges. They where calling to me like the Sirens called to Odysseus of the Odyssey. “What are you waiting for?”, they would sing out. “Come this way!”, they would wail. I need to hold out just a bit longer... Just a few more days.
(...Just a few more days later...)
That was ROUGH! After a week filled with meetings, I was ready. No more meetings. No more client expectations. I have three days to myself to explore this wonderland, and unfortunately the weather was not cooperating for a mountain hike tomorrow, so I’ll go on a 12 hours glacier and wildlife boat exploration. The excursion starts at about 7 am tomorrow morning but it’s about a 2 hr drive south of Anchorage in a small town called Seward. I have to be up and out the door at 5am to make it so I’ll see you in the morning!
